Here is the guide to understanding lens options for your next pair of DAX frames.
The Lowdown: Polarized vs. Non-Polarized Lenses
When choosing your lenses, the biggest question is usually whether to go polarized. Both options offer fantastic UV protection and reduce overall brightness, but they handle light differently.
Non-Polarized Lenses: The Classic Standard Think of non-polarized lenses like turning down the dimmer switch on a bright room. They uniformly reduce the intensity of all light entering your eye.
-
The Benefit: Because they don't filter specific light waves, they often provide a truer color view of the world. They also make it much easier to read digital screens, like your phone GPS or car dashboard, without having to tilt your head.
Polarized Lenses: The Glare Fighters Polarized lenses have a special invisible filter built in. This filter specifically blocks intense, concentrated light bouncing off flat surfaces—what we call "glare."
-
The Benefit: By cutting glare from water, snow, or wet roads, polarized lenses can make your surroundings look crisper, sharper, and higher contrast. They are an absolute game-changer for driving, boating, or beach days.
A Quick Note on Mirrored Lenses Don't confuse "polarized" with "mirrored." A reflective mirror finish is a coating on the outside of the lens (which looks cool and hides your eyes). Polarization is a filter inside the lens. You can have mirrored lenses that are polarized, and mirrored lenses that aren’t!
